Though its designers insist

Though its designers insist that their computerized monitoring system should not take the place of regular visits to a health care professional, they think it will provide a valuable service, making assessments like a physician does--tests that will be able to measure cholesterol levels, determining whether medication needs to be administered, or various, similar functions.

A
like a physician does--tests that will be able to measure cholesterol levels, determining whether medication needs to be administered, or various, similar functions

B
as a physician does--which may be able to perform various functions, such as measuring cholesterol levels or determining whether medication needs to be administered
C
as a physician would--tests that will be able to perform various functions, such as measuring cholesterol levels or determining whether medication needs to be administered
D
like a physician, the ability of which would be for various functions like the measuring of cholesterol levels or the determination whether or not medication needs to be administered
E
as a physician would, to measure cholesterol levels, determining whether medication needs to be administered or not, or similar functions

"like" is a preposition and must be followed by noun, never put a clause or a prepositional phrase after "like" thus, A and D is out
B---> dash (-) + which...this which must refer back to noun but as we can see that in this sentence which isnt refering to any noun...its wrong

E---> bad parallelism (to measure and determining)--> arnt parallel

so C is the right choice...what is OA and the source?

"Like a physician does" is incorrect : out A.
In B "which" refers to "physician": out B.
C CORRECT
"the ability of which would be for various" is wordy and which refers to "physician ": out D.
"as a physician would, to measure cholesterol levels, determining whether medication needs to be administered or not, or similar functions" the entire sentence doesn't have a structure: out E

I think this logic sums up everything. I agree that C is the right answer, too.
