Let x be the difference between the salaries of M and K.
M-x+J+x=2K
M+J=2K
K=(M+J)/2
Stmt I
J=30,000 We don't know anything about M and K //insuff
Stmt II
K=40,000 =>
M+J=80,000 =>
M+J+K=120,000 mean=40,000 //suff
Therefore, B
M-x+J+x=2K
M+J=2K
K=(M+J)/2

One of the equation is m-j=2m-2k. We can rewrite it as m+j=2k.
question is asking about m+j+k.
statement 1: j=30k. We can't solve the equation with j=30k, therefore insufficient.
statement 2: k=40k, we can solve m+j, which is 80k.
avg.=(40k+80k)/3=40k, therefore sufficient.
