Hi guys,

First of all let me thank everyone on BeattheGMAT for an excellent forum for preparation of the GMAT. I am a recent member on the club and joined it in Aug 09, when i decided to take the GMAT on the 22nd of this month (had no other option).

I think after twenty days of preparation (two hours a day on weekdays and five on sundays), i got a 680, which is not a bad score at all as i was averaging around 580 in the first few tests. I understood the weakest areas to be DS and SC from the analysis of the first two tests. However, in the last two tests i did score a 710 and 700 respectively (with a lot of help in DS and sentence correction from this site).

Just a few points that i wold like to elaborate with whatever little experience i have of preparing for GMAT (may be applicable for crash preparation)

(a) Start with the Princeton review verbal and math bins that gives a fair first peep at GMAT at 600 or below level. all other books scare you to no end.

(b) I did 300 SC from the 1000SC and it was a big help. Do jot down two options against each for the first hundred sentences. It gives a fair idea of where you are going wrong. The notes by psahil on the site are of big help.

(c) Do all the DS problems on the first ten pages of beattheGMAT. nothing else is required other than this. Do understand the concepts however.

(d) Don,t attempt a practice test a day before the exam. it is a cardinal sin. I attempted one and scored a measely 560. My confidence was shattered.

(e) Use the flascards. Prepare one if you have time. I had referred to some available on net. They are of big help.

Lastly i also need an advice: I am a engineer by profession and a retired armed froces personnel with an experience of seven years. I am planning for a B school in India with the GMAT score and my experience. Can anybody please suggest whether i should retake or not?

Thanks in Advance

Congratulations.
Your Score is good looking at your background of armed forces.
And the score split is also good between quant and verbal.

Apply fast to your preferred colleges. You may think of IIM-B, ISB..,... A and C dates for exec prog has passed.
Let me know from where you want to pursue MBA.

Hi rookiez,

Thank you for the reply. I am basically looking for ISB, IIM B and XLRI. I am not sure whether the score is sufficient for ISB as the mid 80% score is between 680 to 750. I am already half way through with respect to my applications for ISB and IIMB. Just need to upload the scores and the essays.

Thanks.....
