This GMATPrep stimulus is almost identical to another GMATPrep stimulus about sulfites and wine. The latter is an assumption question, this one is a weaken question...

Many people suffer an allergic reaction to sulfites, including those that are commonly added to wine as preservatives. However, since there are several winemakers producing wine to which no sulfites are added, those who would like to drink wine but are allergic to sulfites can drink these wines without risking an allergic reaction to sulfites.

Which of the following, if true, weakens the argument?

A) Sulfites occur naturally in most wine.

B) The sulfites that can produce an allergic reaction are also commonly found in beverages other than wine.

C) Wines without added sulfites tend to be at least moderately expensive.

D) Apart from sulfites, there are other substances commonly present in wine that can trigger allergic reactions.

E) Wine without added sulfites sometimes becomes undrinkable even before the wine is sold to consumers.

I will go with A here.

The Conclusion is sulfite prone people can drink wine in which no additional sulphite is added..

A destroys this Conclusion by mentioning that suplhites are naturally present in wine.

I love the way Garima uses colors to express her views in posts. :)

All right, since 2 people have already justified the correct answer, I'll talk about option D.

The conclusion of the argument is ----> those who would like to drink wine but are allergic to sulfites can drink these wines without risking an allergic reaction to sulfites.

Which of the following, if true, weakens the argument?

A) Sulfites occur naturally in most wine.->suggests alternate cause for stated effect

D) Apart from sulfites, there are other substances commonly present in wine that can trigger allergic reactions.

D is a super trap answer that talks about allergic reactions that are caused by other substances in general and not specific to the one's caused by sulfites in wine.
Cheers !!

hi all,

here B,C,D can be easily removed and in option A and E use of some, most blah blah helps further truncation.Hence IMO A, but just to add,

In option A, if most is changed to some "i.e. Sulfites occur naturally in some wine" and in option E, if sometimes is removed "i.e Wine without added sulfites becomes undrinkable even before the wine is sold to consumers", then E would become the sole contender.
