GMATPrep CR - Help

When a new restaurant, Martin's Cafe, opened in Riverville last year, many people
predicted that business at the Wildflower Inn, Riverville's only other restaurant, would
suffer from the competition. Surprisingly, however, in the year since Martin's Cafe
opened, the average number of meals per night served at the Wildflower Inn has
increased significantly.
Which of the following, if true, most helps to explain the increase?
A. Unlike the Wildflower Inn, Martin's Cafe serves considerably more meals on
weekends than it does on weekdays.
B. Most of the customers of Martin's Cafe had never dined in Riverville before this
restaurant opened, and on most days Martin's Cafe attracts more customers than it
can seat.
C. The profit per meal is higher, on average, for meals served at Martin's Cafe than
for those served at the Wildflower Inn.
D. The Wildflower Inn is not open on Sundays, and therefore Riverville residents
who choose to dine out on that day must either eat at Martin's Cafe or go to
neighboring towns to eat.
E. A significant proportion of the staff at Martin's Cafe are people who formerly
worked at the Wildflower Inn and were hired away by the owner of Martin's
Cafe.

My answer is C.

1. More meals on weekends and weekdays is out of scope here.
2. Doesn't make sense that if Riverville is the only resturant in town before Martin's cafe, then most customers should have dined there atleast once. Plus the argument is about the # of meals offered has increased.
3. My answer. Profit goes up since profit per meal is higher.
4.Just like 1.
5. Out of scope

1.

My answer would be B.

As most of the customers of Martin's cafe had not dined at Wildflower Inn, it means that Martin's Cafe did not take away customers from Wildflower Inn.
Secondly, as Martin's Cafe attracts more customers than it can seat, it can be assumed that the customers who do not find a seat at Martin's Cafe go to the Wildflower Inn.

My Option B

The question reasons why the average number of meals PER NIGHT served increasedin wildflower cafe

Option B: states because of new visitors visiting that town and lack of seats in new restuarants , will increase the sales in wildflower cafe.

My pick is B

A. Unlike the Wildflower Inn, Martin’s Cafe serves considerably more meals on weekends than it does on weekdays. does not explain the increased customer volume at wildflower inn.

B. Most of the customers of Martin’s Cafe had never dined in Riverville before this restaurant opened, and on most days Martin’s Cafe attracts more customers than it can seat.-> this means that martina cafe is attracting customers who are first timers to Riverville and because the volume is more than Martinâ Cafe can handle, the excess customers probably go to Wildflower Inn

C. The profit per meal is higher, on average, for meals served at Martin’s Cafe than for those served at the Wildflower Inn. Not relevant because we are trying to explain why the average number of meals per night served at the Wildflower Inn has increased significantly. higher Profit per meal at martina's cafe does not explain the increased customer volume at wildflower inn

D. The Wildflower Inn is not open on Sundays, and therefore Riverville residents who choose to dine out on that day must either eat at Martin’s Cafe or go to neighboring towns to eat. does not explain the increased customer volume at wildflower inn

E. A significant proportion of the staff at Martin’s Cafe are people who formerly worked at the Wildflower Inn and were hired away by the owner of Martin’s Cafe. -> does not explain the increased customer volume at wildflower inn

Answer is B. Is it safe to assume here that since the Martin's cafe do not have the sufficient space, the customers would go to other one. Can we make assumptions ?

When I first looked at this problem. None of the options made sense to me. But now when I look from your perspective B sounds better than others.
