GMAT help

by Rastis » Wed Oct 12, 2011 11:54 am
Hi all,

I am having an extremely difficult time gaining the proper skills for quant and somewhat for verbal. I would like to know of any and all suggestions and advice that can be given to someone who has poor math skills and wishes to get their quant range above 40. Thank you very, very much in advance.

Jesse

Jesse,
What books you have studied so far? Getting 40 in Quant is not that difficult. If you have time buy MGMAT Quant books else buy Kaplan math book and go through all questions in OG 12 twice(esp last 80 questions).
For Verbal again not sure what books you are referring now.MGMAT SC is must.Any online source for CR and RC paired with OG 12 questions must prepare you for 600-650 range.
Once you are in this range you will know on ur own what to do. Read the GMAT stories, they have lots of strategies to move forward.

Hi Jesse,
You might be aware of the proverb "Shoot for the moon even if you miss you'll land among the stars". Keep your expectations high so that you can compete with the other candidates in the GMAT. For quant section we'll suggest you to use Manhattan and Kaplan as they are the best in this section.
To score 40 in quant will be quite easy if you will practice with these books. Further to that you might need to change your practice style along with the combination of books, online study guide and Smart phone applications to provide you flexibility and different styles to practice.
When are you planning to take the test? Please let us know if you'd like further assistance on this subject.

I have the Veritas Prep books, an Official Guide book and another Official Guide book that's strictly quant questions. I've started to be able to get through most but when it comes to the difficult ones there's just no hope. I don't know how to "reason" through them.

Also, I was planning on taking the GMAT on the 1st of December but I'm going to push it back to January. There's just no way I can score a 680 or even close with the way my practice tests are coming alone.
