The answer is 1

The given figure is symmetrical so S =1 and t = root 3

Here is another way to solve the problem. Hope this will help. Couldn't get my head around the Pythagorus Theorem. Would appreciate if somebody can write clear steps too.

you can also use complementary angles, which might be faster...
