If 500 is multiple 100 that is closest to x and 400 is the multiple of 100 that is closest to y, which multiple of 100 is closest to x+y?

X<500
Y<400

IMO E. Whats OA?

From given 450 < x < 550 and 350 < y < 450 => 800< x+y < 1000

So possible multiples of 100 closest to x+y are 800, 900 and 1000

1. x<500. so 800 < x+y < 950. still 2 choices 800, 900
2. Similar to above

both taken, we get 800<x+y<900. depends on values of x and y. If x=451 and y=351, 800 is closest. similarly if x=499 and y=399, 900 is closest.
