The introductory modifiers are used for Frances Perkins NOT her influence...IMO! So, this alone makes D correct answer.

Any comments ?

A & C rejected because they use BEING
B & E rejected because of Posessive poison

D sounds pretty okay...

I dont know the source either.. its from Set31-Verbal.pdf , part of material given by some friends..

my answer was D
D is correct.

B is incorrect because it says influence was secretary of labor, an error of meaning addressed in D.
