Hi There,

I am planning to apply for my MBA in 2015. I have a GMAT score of 730, and have done my B. Tech from BITS, Pilani with a GPA of 8.74(on scale of 10). I am working with Oracle Financial Services and will have around 2.5 year experience by the time I join. I am very much interested in Finance, and thus want to pursue MBA.
Requesting for some suggestions on fitting schools and somethings I can do now to improve my candidature.

Hi aspiring4mba_girl,

You're defined Finance as your field of choice, which is good - by knowing a bit more about what you want out of your MBA (and your future), you should find it far easier to narrow down the list of Business Schools that match what you're looking for. To take it a step further, ask yourself the following questions:

1) What do you want to be doing in 5 years? 10 years?
2) Is there a particular industry (or company) that you'd want to work in/for?

3) How long do you want to be in school?
4) Are you comfortable relocating for school (or doing a program that is primarily online)?
5) Do you plan to continue working while you're in school?
6) Are you planning to apply for a scholarship?

With these answers, you can probably narrow down the field even more.

Since you also appear to have some admissions questions, you should probably speak with an Admissions Expert. There's a whole Forum-full of Experts on this site:

Thanks Rich for the response. I want to pursue full time MBA and definitely reallocate based on the best school I get. Would be interested in working in Banking/ Finance domain later.
Do you have some suggestions fitting my profile, preferably US/ UK schools?

Hi aspiring4mba_girl,

It's really not my place to recommend any particular schools or programs. Since this could arguably be one of the biggest decisions of your life, you would be far better served defining EVERY aspect of what you're looking for, then doing your own research. You don't need me to name the Top X number of finance schools - that information is available on any number of websites. Admissions Experts would probably offer a list of those same top programs, but until you define all of the little details (as best as you can at this point in the process), then there will just be that same general list.

Thanks again Rich.

I completely understand the importance of me choosing the school myself.
I have gone through the rankings and details of various schools, I am just trying to ascertain my profile chances in the top programs, sorry for not being clear.

Hi aspiring4mba_girl,

No apologies are necessary; this is a big task and decision, so asking the questions IS a big part of you doing your due diligence. At face value, I think that your profile is pretty strong, but at TOP programs, you really have to "market" yourself correctly (some Admissions Experts will call it "branding"). This is one of the reasons why I highly recommend that you use an Admissions Consultant to help you construct your overall application. The process is so competitive that schools sometimes have the luxury of accepting just 6% to 10% of applicants during any given year. With this LEVEL of competition, general advice simply will not be enough - EVERYTHING must be as specific as possible.
