Clouds are formed from the evaporation of the oceans' water that is warmed by the Sun and rises high into the atmosphere, condensing in tiny droplets on minute particles of dust.

(A) Clouds are formed from the evaporation of the oceans' water that is warmed by the Sun and rises high into the atmosphere, condensing in tiny droplets on minute particles of dust.

(B) Clouds form by the Sun's warmth evaporating the water in the oceans, which rises high into the atmosphere, condensing in tiny droplets on minute particles of dust.

(C) Warmed by the Sun, ocean water evaporates, rises high into the atmosphere, and condenses in tiny droplets on minute particles of dust to form clouds.

(D) The water in the oceans evaporates, warmed by the Sun, rises high into the atmosphere, and condenses in tiny droplets on minute particles of dust, which forms clouds.

(E) Ocean water, warmed by the Sun, evaporates and rises high into the atmosphere, which then condenses in tiny droplets on minute particles of dust to form as clouds.

A) This is incorrect because "that" used in this statement is incorrect.
B) The correct wording will be "are formed" and not form.
C) Correct
D) This sentence does not clearly indicate that water in the oceans evaporate due to warmth from the sun.
E) Here "as clouds" is incorrect.

This is my take on it, experts may please advise!

In A and B, the present participle condensing implies contemporaneous action -- an action happening AT THE SAME TIME as the preceding actions -- but the intended meaning is that the water condenses AFTER it rises high into the atmosphere. Eliminate A and B.

In D, which seems to refer to dust, but it is not the dust that forms clouds; the WATER from the ocean forms clouds. Eliminate D.

In E, which seems to refer to atmophere, but it is not the atmosphere that condenses in tiny droplets; the WATER from the ocean condenses in tiny droplets. Eliminate E.

The best answer is C.

hi gmatguru - got a question on Error in option A.

Isn't the following PHRASE an Error in option A:

"Clouds are formed from the evaporation" -- in Passive voice the preposition should be BY, NOT From in such contexts.

please let me know whether i'm correct ?

X is formed by Y implies that Y FORMS X.
X is formed from Y implies that Y is the MATERIAL used to form X.

A: Clouds are formed from the evaporation.
Conveyed meaning:
The evaporation is the material used to form clouds.
Not the intended meaning.

gmatguru,
can you please clarify what does the Verb-ed modifier "warmed" modify in this sentence ? is it ONLY the following subject - ocean water or the entire following clause ?

(got confused with the parallel structure of the main clause)

OA: Warmed by the sun, ocean water evaporates.
Here, warmed by the sun is an ADJECTIVE serving to describe ocean water.
Question: What KIND of ocean water?
Answer: Ocean water WARMED BY THE SUN.

To a degree, this phrase also plays an adverbial role, providing context for the three actions in the main clause (evaporates, rises, condenses).
These three actions occur because ocean water has been warmed by the sun.

Hi Experts,

Please clarify the below:

In option A

Clouds are formed from the evaporation of the oceans' water Clause 1
that (Subject) is warmed by the Sun and rises high into the atmosphere, Clause 2 condensing in tiny droplets on minute particles of dust.

My doubt: Since the action is done by sun and water is at the receiving end therefore is it the object for the second clause or the subject?

But what confuses me is that it is also the subject for rises high which is in active voice. Active passive construction is parallel in cases where both talk about the same subject. So, is this construction correct?
