experience for MBA

by kkk25 » Fri Sep 12, 2014 11:06 am
I am law graduate (Bachelor of Arts LLB (B.A.LLB hons.)) from not a very well known university in India with graduation percentage 69%. I want to pursue MBA from US. I am currently working (3 months experience) in a website based startup(www.caclubindia.com, website has 1.3+ million users) as assistant editor and handling roles related to MBA. I want to know that whether my experience in this startup is better for my MBA application or working in a law firm as an associate is better and how many years of experience should I have before I start applying to universities? what gre or gmat score wold i need to get into top 50 universities?
Please help!

Hi there,

It's most common to work for 4-6 years before starting the MBA, so applying when you have 3-5 years of experience. In terms of what path -- the best thing is to focus on what you think will most help you with your future, post-MBA career goals... and that will come across best to the admissions committee too as you explain the choices you made. As for test scores, you can view the average scores at top Business Schools on the US News & World Report ranking; on Businessweek.com profiles, and/or on the school websites. For top 10 schools the averages are around 700-730 (GMAT), fyi.

Good luck!
