Expected University

The insatiable desire to gain profound knowledge in the sphere of my interest and grow as an adult and decent person has been my primary motivation over the last few years. I have come to a conclusion that professional and personal success ultimately depends on the choices one make in crucial moments. The opportunity to transfer to the university and get an undergraduate education has become a long-awaited alternative that can provide the new, stimulating environment. Being deeply interested in economics, I realize that it is of utmost importance to develop analytical skills and receive high-quality training. For this reason, I have decided to transfer to the university, where studying at the Department of Economics I can receive a professional education and develop the respective competence, which will give me a fair chance of a promising future.
During my studies, I devoted much time to not only learning the subjects but also volunteering, which had a significant influence on my personality. I participated in the Church program for supporting homeless people, where I served food and communicated with the residents. Such an invaluable experience became an integral part of my life as it brought much satisfaction and inner harmony. I have learned that helping others is one of the noblest things a person can do to feel a real human.
My secondary education started in Canada, where I was studying from 2006 to 2007. Then I attended middle and high schools in South Korea. In New Zealand, I studied in two high schools in two different cities. It was a troubled time for me as I found myself in the company of wrong people, which had an adverse effect on my progress in studies. I was not learning thoroughly and got poor results in some subjects. However, during my junior year, I began to look at the world differently and reinterpreted many aspects of my life. I watched my friends, who were spending all their time skipping classes, getting low grades, going to the parties, and doing nothing that would help them in the future. Soon I realized that being like them leads me nowhere, and I became ashamed of my former behavior and attitudes. However, one of my friends who spent much time and effort for studying managed to enter the college. It was the moment when I knew that I had to work hard to have a different and better life. It had to spend a considerable amount of time on preparing for the classes. I had to start from the beginning as I missed a lot. It was challenging and at times humiliating when I did not know something, but I did not surrender. At home, I began to study all the questions I could not answer in class as it was important to me not to look ashamed in the eyes of the teacher and my classmates. It was a major achievement for me as I managed to get decent grades in the end.
The participation in various school activities such as Korean traditional music and guitar clubs, English newspaper club, soccer team, and school band played a constructive role in my life as it helped me to develop my talents in music, writing, sport and uncover the hidden potential. Being the president of the student council for eight years taught me to enjoy and master speaking in public. The awards I got were the symbol of my achievements and evidence of my diligence and persistence, which motivated me to continue growing as a good student. I believe that being such an active person and having the experience of participating in extracurricular activities will a real benefit to me in the university.
2011 was the year of me moving to the United States of America and facing many challenges. I studied at the Christian Academy and Community College. Being an international student, and had to overcome cultural differences on a daily basis. However, I knew how to survive a cultural shock and communicate with people from a different culture as I have studied in three countries. Now I am pleased to be living in the United States and experience diverse customs and traditions of multiple nationalities. I hold an opinion my broad cultural background will be useful when organizing meetings and conferences with international students and cooperating with international companies in my future as an economist.
It is vital to mention that in spring 2013, I had a terrible car accident, which created a problem with attending some college classes. Fortunately, I was lucky to escape severe injuries. However, I was living alone in the United States at that time and could not get a ride to school. That is why I failed some subjects. I must admit that it was a troubled time for me as I needed a long time to recover. That period taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of support and care. It would be much easier to overcome the hardships I was facing if I had somebody there for me. Fortunately, I recovered soon enough to retake the classes I needed. I am proud of the fact that I found no shame in attending the classes I have already been to as it allowed me to retake the tests and receive good grades.
The fundamental aim of my transferring the university is that I realized I need a more intensive and job-related training, which will increase my chances to become a successful person in future. I believe that the Department of Economics will be an advantageous environment for me to improve and develop my skills in computing math, problem-solving, and analytical thinking. I studied subjects related to economics and got high grades. Consequently, I am inspired to broaden and deepen my knowledge in this sphere by the methods and approaches of your department as I have received many positive feedbacks from the former students of your university and Internet. I am sure that the professors of your Economics Department can provide me with expert knowledge which I devoutly wish to get and to use for my future career of an economist. This profession gives me high hopes that I will find a good job as the employers hire economists in various sectors, which reduces the possibility of unemployment. Furthermore, I will have the opportunity to undertake a postgraduate study of economics and practice it on a higher level.
To conclude, I am convinced that your program is a perfect fit for my personal, educational, and career goals. I have no doubts that I will thrive at your department as I am a determined and industrious person who remains stalwart in the face of, serious challenges. I believe that, my cultural, educational, and personal experience will greatly contribute to the university.
