Hi All,
I am new to this forum and I find it quite motivating. I just registered to do my GMAT exams Dec. 27th, 2008. After reading several posts I am motivated to aim for 750. I am not currently working at the moment (economic crunch!-redundancy) so I have at least 8hrs a day study time.

From now till Dec 27th is approximately 5weeks.
Please can anyone suggest a strategy for the next 5 weeks? or should I reschedule and do the GMAT in January.

Can I get at least 700 with 5week/8hrs a day plan?

I have "OG11" for now. I can purchase several more-what should I purchase?

My friend this is what I am using. All Manhattan Gmat Guides and OG 11 with OG Verbal and Math Reviews.

My exam is on the same day and I am starting my preparing now too. I don't know if 5 weeks is enough but I will definitely try!

A750SCORE/azumahprince,
I'm also planning to write my exam on Dec 27th. All the best to you both. I started my preparation few days before with MGAM SC.

Thanks,
Umaa

Wow, all of us will take the test on the same day!

I am following the strategy that Eric outlined in one of his posts, "How to study for the GMAT under a month." I decide to just study out of the official guide books and do a lot of practice tests.

Best wishes.

However if you are looking to write the GMAT in 2008 I do have some advice for you.

For SC Manhattan GMAT guide tops the list and that too by a huge margin.

For math I suggest finding Kaplan 800 and doing the questions for the math part. It is supposed to be tougher than the real GMAT so it will give you good practice. Also practice as much math as you can and try to practice with good sources like Manhattan GMAT or Kaplan.

For CR you can use Powerscore if you have not done a university course in Logic. IMO if you have done a logic course in the university you should not have too much trouble getting the right answer in CR.

For RC you should know where you stand so plan accordingly. Frankly I dont have too much advice for RC.

Lastly practice as much as you can from OG10 and OG11. Nobody makes test questions like GMAC and OGs will give you lots of original material to practice on.

I hope that helps.

All the Best

Thanks for all your inputs. I appreciate.... I've just spent the last few days putting together material for Exam including ordering books- something tells me that I should postpone the Exam... I'm not sure ( We shall see)

i am in the late december bracket too... 29th to be precise.

OG's 10 and 11; Kap 09 and 800; plus manhattan SC.

my weak points as of now are DS and RC (specific ques, i nail the general questions everytime).

one major issue is the 4 hr duration of the paper. i dont have a desk job, so has been ages since i sat 4 hours straight on my chair.

so from tomo onwards, will be giving a CAT everyday at my exam time. hope my stamina builds.

(thank god also, that my Xbox RR0D-ed  )

best of luck to all..

P.S. - reading the just beat the gmat section is a huge motivation boost. thanks everyone who posts here.

hey guys, just gave a mgmat cat... got 630 (Q42, V34)
was such a relief crossing the 600 hurdle..
well, gettin to data, i studied 7 outta 9 chaps of manhattan SC, and saw a 15% increase in the hit rate in sc questions on the cat..
i didnt even touch quant at all, and managed a 42, so i dont have to stress atleast for the next 3-4 days abt quant.

altho, i got killed in CR, as in the hit rate is still arnd 36%!! keep in mind i havnt taken any guidance in CR so far

now im gonna really run in at powerscore cr stuff over the next 2-3 days, and finish the whole book... also gonna keep revising manhattan SC..
lets see how things go..

one thing is for sure guys.. VERBAL HAS A MUCH BETTER POSITION TO BOOST THE SCORE!!! A 5 POINT INCREMENT IN VERBAL GOT ME A 40 POINT JUMP IN THE OVERALL SCORE!!!!!! (despite fallin from 44 to 42 in quant)!!

cheers!

gave mgmat yesterday nite

590! 32v 40q(big mistake not to click on the Next button, anf THEN take an extended break)

lessons... 87 hit rate in SC (from 72) BUT
3/12 right in RC, i think partially coz i got startled seeing 3/4 passages that I had seen on earlier MGMATs, partially coz ive barely practiced TOUGHER RC
CR- after goi thru 90% of Powerscore, and not a lot of practice due to time constraints, got a hit rate of 50% (from 37)

on the whole, have to REALLY BUCK UP... and GET OVER THE FEELING that this isnt gonna be my final attempt on the GMAT.
truth be told, i didnt get enuf time to practice, plus I got distracted a lot due to smethings goin on around me..

BUT am not gonna play any blame games, and gonna make sure I NAIL it this time! no point ruining my confidence... after all, i jus need to puck up on the RC part for today, and tmrw do only quant, as my quant score has always been around 44-42..
I will NEVER GIVE UP!
lets see how much I can muster in two days... test on Tuesday!
hhaaaahahhahaa
