Efficiency in harvesting

by Dean Jones » Sat Nov 26, 2011 6:09 am
Dear Friends,

I was having problems in answering the following question.

Although improved efficiency in converting harvested trees into wood products may
reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering
prices, thereby boosting
consumption.

A. in converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will
stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices, thereby boosting
B. in converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, demand
will be stimulated because of increasing supply and lowering prices, which boost
C. of converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will
stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices, which boosts
D. of harvested trees being converted into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it
will stimulate demand, because it will increase supply and lower prices, thereby
boosting
E. when harvested trees are converted into wood products may reduce harvest rates,
demand will be stimulated because of increasing supply and lowering prices, which
boost

Please help.

OA after some discussions.

My choice was option B

Regards
Deano.

I got B..

Increased efficincy in coverting X into Y.
'demand' instead of 'it' is more precise.

The more the supply the less the cost and the demand
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement
Second take: coming soon..
Regards,
HSPA.

OA is B. There is a cause effect in the problem which is depicted in Option A. Cab any one explain why A is incorrect.

After going through options A & B again I realise that it in option A is ambiguous & can refer to either improved efficiency or reduced harvest rates

+1A. Not B, because it does not show the causal relationship as shown in the original sentence, thereby changing the meaning of the original : a sin in GMAT :)
