15. If it is 6:27 in the evening on a certain day, what time in the morning was it exactly 2,880,717 minutes earlier? (Assume standard time in one location.)
(A) 6:22
(B) 6:24
(C) 6:27
(D) 6:30
(E) 6:32

Hi,
The answer is D) but could not figure out... can you help?

I am getting the answer as B.

2,880,717 minutes is 48011.95 hours (48011 hours and 57 min)

Since 24 hours make a day we can remove 48000 hours from the calculation. We are left with 11 hours and 57 min. This added to 6:27 PM gives us 6:24 AM.

2280717 min
2880717/60 = 48011 hours and 57 min. Had we added three more min the time would have been exactly 6:27. However, we are 3 min short. Hence 6:24

So B...The approach of Prassana is also good!

To calcuate minutes for hours mentioned with decimals we need to multiple by the decimal value by 60

.95 hr means .95*60 minutes

.5 hr means .5*60 minutes and so on.

I get D for the answer. The earlier replies look to be adding the seconds to the current time, but the question asks what time it was 2,880,717 seconds earlier.

Since there are 24*60 = 1440 minutes per day, every 1440 minutes, it will be 6:27 pm again. Therefore, we can just worry about subtracting the remainder when we divide 2,880,717 by 1440. This remainder is 717, so we just need to subtract 717 mintues from 6:27 pm.

717 minutes is 11.95 hours, or 11 hours and 57 minutes. If we were subtracting 12 hours, we would have 6:27 am, but we are three minutes short, so we have 6:30 am for the answer.

One day = 1440 mins.
Question is 2880717 mins prior to 6:27 in the evng.
2880000 is 2000 days prior to the given time. That leaves 717 mins,
720 mins = 12 hrs which would give us 6:27 am. but since its 3 mins lesser, u need to add 3 mins to it, leading to 6:30 am
