CR - Some communities in Florida

by SubratGmat2011 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 6:07 pm
Some communities in Florida are populated almost exclusively by retired people and contain few, if any,
families with small children. Yet these communities are home to thriving businesses specializing in the rental
of furniture for infants and small children.
Which of the following, if true, best reconciles the seeming discrepancy described above?
(A) The businesses specializing in the rental of children's furniture buy their furniture from distributors outside
of Florida.
(B) The few children who do reside in these communities all know each other and often make overnight visits
to one another's houses.
(C) Many residents of these communities who move frequently prefer renting their furniture to buying it
outright.
(D) Many residents of these communities must provide for the needs of visiting grandchildren several weeks a
year.
(E) Children's furniture available for rental is of the same quality as that available for sale in the stores.

Can someone plz help me out to understand the question clearly and the answer for this question?, It is bit confusing for me.

Simply D.

What can cause an increase in rentals for furnitures for childern when there are few in florida?
If we have influx of children from outside florida(read grandchildren) then we can exlain the reason of the increase in sales.

Hope this helps.

We're trying to reconcile the following incongruity: very few children live in a community where vendors that rent children's furniture are thriving.

Our job is to figure out why people in this community would be renting a lot of children's furniture when not that many children live there.

Answer choice B doesn't explain this. Use a simple example to illustrate: Imagine that there are 100 homes in a community, and, say, 2 or 3 of those homes have children living there. Would it really matter if those kids often spent the night at each other's homes? Presumably any homes with young children would already have children's furniture. And even if they needed to rent something when a neighborhood child spent the night, we're still only talking about a few homes in the community - not exactly a recipe for a thriving business.
