Correct Answer Vs logical explanation

by mriaz1 » Sun May 21, 2006 11:05 pm
Dear friends,

I am getting 95% hit rate on the OG SC questions. The problem is that I am using my best judgement while choosing the answers and some how it seems to work. However, when I refer to the OA explanations, my logic appear no way close to the one they have explained. Also, I am having difficulty understanding the explanation in OG. I tend to get cought in the words such as Noun + verb + etc etc = confusion :)

I know some would say getting the answer right is most important but I am afraid to rely on the same judgement on the happy day.

Please provide feedbacks or possible suggestions to tackle OG verbal explanations. or mastering SC logic.

Thanks (mriaz1)

That's an impressive SC hit rate! Have you gone through all the SC questions in OG yet? Are you going through SC practice questions under timed conditions? If you can complete all the SC questions in OG with a 95% hit rate, then perhaps your instincts are sound enough to trust for the real GMAT.

It sounds like you are having difficult understaning the explanations in OG because you are not fully versed in English grammar terms/concepts. Reading a basic English grammar book may be helpful. However, since the GMAT tests GMAT English grammar (which is a narrow scope of English grammar), you may be better off studying from a solid SC study guide like Spidey's Notes or Sahil's Notes--or even better, the crown jewel of all SC: Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction GMAT Preparation Guide

If you still find that you are having problems understanding SC concepts/explanations, ASK THIS COMMUNITY! We are here to help one another. Post the explanation or text that is confusing you, and we can help you dissect it.

Best of luck!
