the idiom "as much as" needs to be used ... choice A is the best of all the worst choices.

Can you please post the answer.
Also what does IMO stand for ... "In my opinion" ??

Thanks for your replies.

Well the answer has gven to be D, but no explanation has been provided. Got this Q from one of the PDFs from e-snips.

Now from all the weirs options we have- I think option D makes a little sense because it has some kind of a paralleism.
Eg. the total amount of pollutant emitted annually by vehicles at O’Hare International Airport is twice that emitted annually by all motor vehicles and 'that' subsitutes for the amount.

Also, I think option A is too wordy.

Let me know your opinion pls...
Thanks

in a being=passive, a big no-no for the gmat. I dont think ive ever seen a question correct with 'being' as one of the words.

I picked "D" on first shot. i insighted following reasons for elimination.

A. as much as that which is being emitted annually by all - Wrong due to great "Being"

B. as much annually as is emitted by the - HEre "The" is wrong as it talks about all Motors, not any particular.

C. as much compared to what is annually emitted by all- WHere is "as"

D. that emitted annually by all - Correct.

E. that emitted annually compared to the[/quote] - HEre "The" is wrong as it talks about all Motors, not any particular.

.. I hope i m clear,, pls let me know if any other reason,
Lalit Khatri

A. as much as that which is being emitted annually by all : unnecessarily wordy
B. as much annually as is emitted by the : improper placement of annually ; should be as much as is emitted annualy by all
C. as much compared to what is annually emitted by all : X is twice Y : correct form: what is emitted annually by all
D. that emitted annually by all : correct
E. that emitted annually compared to the: unnecessarily wordy

FYI: I got it wrong when I attempted and had no clue how to go about it ; I provided my reasoning as per my understanding

A is really wordy.
B is awkwardly stated.
C is awkward.
D correct
E wordy
Have you wondered how you could have found such a treasure? -T

official answer is D.

A could have come close because of as much as, but 'that which' is something which I have not heard of...

one confession... the question was so easy...yet i managed to get it wrong!

C. as much compared to what is annually emitted by all
D. that emitted annually by all
E. that emitted annually compared to the
Explanation:

We are between B and D.
About D:
The total amount of pollutant (emitted annually by vehicles at O'Hare International Airport) is twice the total amount (emitted by all motor vehicles in the Chicago metropolitan area) clear!

 Total amount of X is twice that emitted annually by all vehicles.
Here, that = total amount

About B.

The total amount of pollutant (emitted annually by vehicles at O'Hare International Airport) is twice as much annually as the total amount of pollutant is (emitted by all motor vehicles in the Chicago metropolitan area) barrier!
