"Change Job" Vs "Stick to Job" b4 MBA

by smackmartine » Thu Jun 02, 2011 1:20 am
Hi All,

I am planning to get into MBA by fall 2012 . I have been working with one of the fortune 500 companies for past 5 years, and this is also my 1st company. I recently got H1 B visa, valid from October 2011. Because I can earn good cash on H1 B visa compared to what I am earning on my current visa , I am thinking of switching job after September 2011. Good thing about this decision is that I can accumulate some money for my MBA. However , I am confused , because at the current company and at the client location, I will loose contact with few important people, who can write recommendations during my application cycle.

Can anyone tell me, what could be the best way to handle this situation? Will it be a plus point to join MBA after continuously working in the same company for 5 years or it does not matter if I switch at the last moment ?

Thanks in advance.

I wrestled with this too. I looked at my goals and assessed if a job change would help my app. Most of the job offers in my company would not and required relocation. So relocation, learning a new job, and researching and applying all on the same timeline made it easier for me to stay in my current job.

If it really helps your application then go for it.
