Career Change

by talharif » Thu May 14, 2015 5:02 am
Hi

I am intending to apply at B-Schools for 2016 enrolment and my primary objective to go for a B-School is career change. I have seven years of work experience in financial services with focus on treasury and risk management. I am looking in to moving to a tech firm, hence I am looking at schools near West Coast in US. Here is a brief summary:

Undergrad GPA: 3.17 out of 4
Work Exp: 7 years (more than 1 year in UAE. I have heard international exp is given weightage)
GMAT: Havent taken but targeting around 700
Teofl: 107
Age: 31 (at the time of admission)

Which schools should I be targeting? Do I stand any chance for Stanford for Haas if I push my score above 720? How about Fuqua?

Outside US, I am considering INSEAD or Rotterdam School of Management.

Would apprecite your feedback.

Cheers!

Hey there,

Thanks for the post and the clarifying PM that you have a 2 year undergrad and a 2 year MBA. So the fact that you already have an MBA is going to work against you. Haas, for example, simply won't allow you to apply. Your 2 year undergrad will also end up cutting you from most programs. Some schools will allow a 3 year degree on a case by case basis but a 2 year degree is a no-go from almost everyone. As for your GMAT given your academics, it would have to be above a 720 for even a lower ranked program to consider you. MBA programs in the US don't have a lot of qualifying criteria but they do have a few, and you're not batting a great average there unfortunately. I'm sorry - I know that probably isn't what you wanted to hear!

Well I guess that is bad news for me. Can you outline few schools that I can target given my situation.

Thanks,
