This seems an interesting question, what is the source? its vs their - sprouts are plural. Hence A and B out. Due to exceeds in C it is out. D changes the meaning, they do not exceed "the size" they exceed the "size of a walnut".

Here brussels sprouts HAVE TO BE considered as plural, as we need to pay attention to the later part of the sentence , which says " are immature buds........."
