Ask a Tepper MBA Student

by ReverseBond700 » Mon Nov 25, 2013 6:42 pm
Greetings all! My name is Peter, and I am a Tepper MBA 2nd-year student. As our school's Marketing VP, I am helping to bring together a number of Tepper MBAs to help answer your questions regarding life at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business.

Please feel free to get in touch with me about anything ranging from our life at the school, focus in applying to companies, social life, and anything else in between. If I cannot answer your questions, I will be sure to help get you in touch with someone that can!

I hope all of you have a great time, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Best regards,

Pete

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to mention that as the winter break approaches (~12/15-1/15), we will be having coffee talks for prospective students at a number of different locations worldwide. These chats are run and formed by real Carnegie Mellon University Tepper students.

For anyone that's interested in learning more about the program, this is a great chance to have a candid conversation with what goes on at Tepper.

I will be posting a link soon, and hope to hear from you all soon!

Hello Pete,

greetings from Indonesia, I'm a current R2 applicant, I have been invited for an off-campus interview on early February.

As I don't have the chance to visit the campus, can you help me highlight on whatever experiences an applicant might have on the campus tour?
This will help me learn more about the school and the program that might only be gained through a campus visit and not be available on the CMU Tepper website.

thank you!

Hi Pete! Looks like I'm in the same pool as our other friend! Been offered a 2nd round interview, but I am a bit busy with work. Would you suggest it wise to come to campus or not? BTW, living in CA, so was not sure if it was worthwhile to come to campus.

Thanks!

Corey

Hi Seno,

Congratulations on getting an interview, and thanks for the question! That's a tricky question since I would say that everybody's experience differs, and people fall in love with different things about the program. I would say the most common things that people notice are the small classes, diversity, and the strong quantitative skills are usually what people look forward to learning. The small class size is useful as it allows for a lot of discussion and thought development.

Other than that, I would say it would be a good idea to try to connect with some current students. There is a site with that available where you can reach out to a student based on interests, location, and career focus. If you would like more info on that, just let me know.

Best regards,

Pete

Hi Corey,

Congratulations to you too! It's good to hear the pool of candidates has already been receiving their interview invites. If you can find the time, I would definitely say you should come out to see the campus. One of the biggest reasons is so that you can take in all the things that you might not be able to take away from the info you read. It's amazing what can happen if you walk around the area and look for inspiration. With that said, if you are really unable to go, it will not hurt you in your standing. Let me know if you need anything else.

Best,

Pete
