ASIAN AMERICAN MOVEMENT

by HannaCooper » Fri Apr 16, 2021 8:15 am
Fellow students, it is my humble submission to address you at this juncture, regarding the state of affairs in this nation; it may definitely have far reaching effects on our studies and our lives now and in future. Allow me to ventilate on the issues of gender, sexuality, and the ongoing Asian American Activism that has hitherto become confounding in our contemporary society.
As you are all aware, we have automatically been radicalized by anti-Vietnam war and black power movements which are seeking to challenge typecasts about Asian passivity and rejecting the syndrome of exoticism and racism of oriental labels. We need to stand tall in our quest for full rights, as bona-fide citizens of this country, lest we jeopardize our future and the future of our coming generations. For instance, if you examine the curriculum critically, you will note blatant biasness, which is demeaning to us as Asian Americans, although the fact remains that we can compete favorably or even better than the Western Imperialists.
Besides, we need to consciously demand an end to historical racist hiring practices that are conspicuous in both private and public sectors of economy. As it has been prominently hinted by our pioneer activist Bruce Lee in his antiracial films, he has actually set the pace for us and we need to expeditiously respond to his call by taking the bull by the horns. My friends, no one will ever do this for us and we must not sit back and expect things to just work out.
In addition, we need to join efforts to fight for sexual and transgender rights for our brothers and sisters battling with identity crisis as a result of their inborn defective sexual orientation. We are all aware of the maligning nature of families and the society which these victims come from. Some have reportedly been disowned by their kinsmen, while others have allegedly been out-rightly sidelined in social responsibilities and public service. We have, therefore, resolved to join the recently founded Gender Justice League at Seattle Pride to combine efforts in the fight against these prejudices.
Apart from that, you are aware that following the Seattle Pride and the pivotal Stonewall riots, we have formed a national movement for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, queer LGBTQ, through which we hope to champion all concerns of the victims as a pertinent agenda in the civil rights activism. This is so because we have witnessed cases where the rights of lesbians and gays have out-rightly been violated by the civil society, which hitherto views the practices as taboo. Some have been brutally murdered in full glare of the security agencies and no apparent step has been taken to indict the perpetrators of those heinous acts.

As I conclude, through the movement, the transgender activism will spearhead efforts to legalize hormone replacement therapy to enable them modify their gender identity, in line with their emotional instincts. This is the only way that will enable them to start living their lives after finding their true identities. Although the government and the civil society are still very adamant in accepting these realities, we are determined to relentlessly fight tooth and nail, until we realize a society where all diversities, naturally or culturally, find comfort and relevance. For these many remarks, I say thank you for being my audience, and the struggle continues.
