by sochill33 » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:27 am
Hi everyone, please let me know what my chances of getting into a Top 25 B-School are. I'll keep it brief and fill in details as needed.

-26 years old, white, male, from United States
-Attended top 25 university in undergrad, majored in Film, with two Business minors
-Graduated in '09 with a 3.1 GPA
-Started an innovative firm right out of college with international clientele, received national press in NPR, LA Times, Fast Company, and other publications, prefer to keep revenues private
-Took GMAT three times, highest score was 660 (V42, Q39) with a 6 in Writing
-Strong essay writing and interviewing skills
-Interested in getting MBA to expand current business and build new one doing social good

Thank you all very much!

It really does depend on many factors, such as type of business you've created, in which industry, etc. Also if you have no traditional employment experience, you could be viewed as a wildcard, since you're only as employable as your last job. Your GPA and GMAT (especially your low quant score) will make it difficult for a top 10 school to admit you, but I would think an 11-25 school would give you a serious look if you took some supplemental calculus and statistics classes at your local college to show them you're serious about school.

Look for a school that is trying to move their program more into entrepreneurship to give yourself into an edge. Your background in film could be interesting to a number of schools with a strength in that area such as USC and therefore a strong network to insert you into after graduation.

Thanks for the feedback Sieken!

I should clarify. I do have traditional employment experience. I worked as regional manager of a moving and storage franchise in college for several years.

Entrepreneurship is definitely an American thing. I would suggest go for a specialized Masters program if you will be looking for a job after your Masters.
