Thanks a lot bblast for the wonderful tips .

I have also observed that basically verbal makes the difference in the score especially RC , i m doing bad at RC 50% hit ratio [normally screw most of the tests in last RC] and CR 57% hit ratio [Although i m fine at CR while solving at the forum or while offline practice, dnt know what makes me fumble at test]. Any tips to improve verbal , i also have almost brushed max books in the market .Your insight into this would be helpful . The Standard Deviation should be minimum to achieve the super 7.

I have an engineering b/g , so u will understand my situation with Quant .
I would strongly suggest that engineers should not settle for anything less than a 49 in quant. It makes reaching 700 a lot more feasible. i think even with a V 34 u will get to a 700. Just give some time. I am not being biased here. But after all the crappy signal and systems numericals//vector algebra// triple integration// u should back yourself to deal with subtle gmat questions in a few months' time.

CR :
Your quote regarding CR's is perfectly valid. Its may be difficult to nail them in the test envir. Even I fumbled on some of them after question 25 yesterday. Believe me I had become good at CR's. But this does not mean you always have to do badly in them. The level of CR questions is never too tough in GMAT. M sure u already have tried a few LSAT papers. That wil help develop some more base. For test taking I would suggest take a good old stopwatch, pick 10 questions, time for 15 mins, put on the earplug, phone on flight mode and go for it, this will work much better to groom u for the actual scenario. Randomly doing CR's reading the stem 2wice or thrice will naturally yield an answer to most sensible persons. I could never do this cause I studied in my manufacturing plant with people disturbing me every other minute.

For RC :
I made a terrible mistake of getting lost in making too much notes in RC in CAT's some 10 days before my exam. But thankfully I corrected my mistake with crucial time in hand. The best technique is to read the first para, take ur eye off the screen for a a few seconds, pretend to write notes(mind u->u will hardly look these notes while answering questions.)but it helps. the brief pause even lets u comprehend what u have read in the first para. A couple of things I always did. I used to attach SLANGS to the bad guys in the passage,(In fine english this is called personalizing the passage) and make arrows for one thing leading to the other. sometimes they ask questions "which of the following is likely to happens when XYZ happens ?" ur notes will give u an answer for this in a second.

Lemme know if any more questions.

I started from 590 on a princeton test on 2nd dec, shot to around 640-660(MGMAT's) by 25th dec, pretty much stayed around that till the end. My verbal score was consistent, 32-37, sometimes 40, never below 31. my quant varied from 42-49.
I was never a wizard in maths anyway.

Sorry you didnt get that 700, but a 650 is not an average score for the GMAT. I think that its a very solid score and there is nothing to be ashamed about especially with a quant score of 47. When I took my GMAT I made a similar timing mistake in quant. I was more or less cruising along and decided I had extra time to devote to the last 5 questions to really try to up the score. I ended up using up almost all the time on two of them (neither of which I think I got correct) and then having to rush on the last 3. If I had kept my wits about me I never would have been in that position. Luckily it was only 3 questions and 1 of them, while somewhat difficult, was a type I had gotten very good at quickly solving.

I took a quick glance at your schools and I doubt 20-30 points is a dealbreaker with any of those choices as long as you put together a solid application. Rotmans average is right about 650 so you are pretty much right on the number for them Depending on what the deadlines are for the programs you can always apply now and sit for the GMAT a second time if you feel that it will help your chances that much more. My guess is after going through the actual experience you will better budget your time on the next go around and probably get right around that 700 you wanted.
Thanks Jason, I will try a hand at the apps for R3, I have to travel a lot in the next few days. (My sister's marriage in a few days). And then have to pump up the production for the coming spring-summer. My employees are sleeping with slack production since a month under my gmat campaign.

And ya if I do reappear, I will somewhere in April-May. And I'll give some serious thrashing to this beast with a much more organized and balanced study plan.

(Thanks for your last minute AWA tips, I tried to stick to the topic, I think I did well, will let ya know scores. I literally did not prepare for AWA's)

I guess you got a less score with that split 47/34... It should be around 670
Mine 49/28 is 640..

Hard Luck man!! Verbal 34 is really good

Hope you get into your desired school. Best of Luck

that's because GMAT scores are matched with the percentile of examinees with the same range of scores - likelihood of seasonality in business
Kumar could mention his q/v split to position GMAT score better
ah these percentiles ...

good tip guys, about quoting the split,i really feel unlucky, i have a printed copy 47/34.
in fact i had at the back of my mind that even an average show would land me at 670 with a 47/35. but fell way short with just a single point short in verbal.
