Advice and answers neede here

by towerSpider » Mon Dec 20, 2010 2:13 am
Hello. Today i tested my self on paper with cliffton. I had 29 correct in math and 24 in english. Any idea what percentile this corresponds to ? I do not have any experience or prestigious schooling institutes in my academic record. therefore i am aiming at very very high score if not 99 percentile. I dont know where to begin from or what strategies to adopt? Can any one help? I just believe my studying is not helpful. Any comments please.

My suggestion is to download GMATPrep from www.mba.com and take it to get a realistic assessment of where you stand.

I agree with Arun. Download the GMATPREP software and take one test. GMATPREP tests are the best indicators of your competency level before you start preparing for the GMAT. After that, browse through the forum and see what strategy, books did others follow to tame the GMAT monster . The best thing about this community is that whenever you'll a problem, you just post here on the forums and you'll see a lot of helping hands coming to your rescue. Let us know what score do you get on GMATPREP and then we can probably figure out how to proceed further . Get going! All the best!

Thanks for your replies.

I did as you said but instead of taking GMATPrep, I took Kaplan. I did this to leave GMATPrep for end since it represents score far better than any other available. I am completely devastated after the attempt. Actually I have been reading for some time but only got 570. I really need to improve my score. I am thinking the way I study is not correct or I put little attention to answers to mistakes but I am not sure.

Now a day I am focused on my SC. I have Manhattan SC Review and OG 10e. Manhattan has sectioned chapters according to problem types. I read each chapter and then in the end do the number problems they have refered in the end of each chapter; these problems are found in OG 10e. The process is a bit slow because I have to switch between many pages. When I encounter something new, I make incorrect sentence of that concept and keep it safe for reattempting for later times so that I can be well-versed in it. So you see, this all takes time. What are you suggestion on my studying method?

On other hand, I think Kaplan is not good representative of actual GMAT. I have not taken real GMAT but I have read real SC and RC passages of past and I think there is prominent difference. SC of OG are far easier where Passages are far difficult.

Which version of kaplan CATs you used? Kaplan has revised their scoring algorithm in its latest edition and its scoring now way better than their previous editions.

But i think you should still take a GMATPrep CAT once. I guess you're marching towards the end of prep since you have been studying for sometime now. You should GMATPrep atleast once now and see where you stand. Remember that you can re-take GMATprep as many times as you wish although you may encounter few questions getting repeated.

Now I am completely devastated. I actually scored 560 on GMATPrep. I don't know what to do. I am way too low. I have completed Barron's GMAT 14th ed, Barron's GRE (only for math tricks, and math and RC practice), and some other random stuff. Actually I have spent some time on studying already and in the end I turn up with nothing. After getting more knowledge about material online and in beatthegmat forums, I got introduced to better material so I decided to start with SC, so I took Manhattan SC and OG 10e; now I am half done with it. What are your advices please?

papgust,

I did online free version of Kaplan.
