Admitted to HEC and ESADE (MSc)

by xatx » Wed Feb 18, 2015 1:46 pm
Hi, I have been admitted to both the MSc in International Management/CEMS at ESADE and to the MiM Grande Ecole at HEC Paris. I am from Europe and I hold a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. I am interested in the consulting industry or in a general management position. I am not really interested in the Finance/IB sector. I have basic skills in both French and Spanish and I think that I could gain fluency while studying in the respective country. However, I know that I probably won't be able to work in Spain or France right after graduation, so I would prefer a job in an English- or German-speaking country.

I know that both schools are excellent choices. Right now, I am leaning towards ESADE, since the school seems to fit a little bit better to me personally. I am more comfortable with going to Barcelona. However, HEC's reputation seems to be slightly better than ESADE's and I am not sure if it would be the right decision to walk away from a prestigious school like HEC.

I'd be interested in your opinion. Thank you for your help!

Hey xatx,

Both schools are well-respected in Europe. HEC however, currently ranks better as per the rankings released by Financial Times for MiM programs. You can check the full list here:

Having said that, the CEMS MiM program has its own additional benefits. You can have a look at the review of both programs on the following links:
HEC Paris - https://www.mim-essay.com/hec-paris-mim-review.html
ESADE - https://www.mim-essay.com/esade-mim-review.html

I have to agree it's a tough choice to make, but it's certainly good to have both options at hand.

Why do you think that ESADE is a better fit than HEC? It really all comes down to that as both schools have a good reputation. I would agree that HEC might be seen as slightly more prestigious, however, but just looking at that is not always the best way to decide. (I personally hold HEC is very high regard but we all choose differently)

I would encourage you to not only choose based on Barcelona or Paris, however, as both cities have their own advantages and disadvantages and knowing enough about the cities can be difficult if you've never lived there or even visited. Try to look at all the information about the schools and programs in order to make a decision instead.
