I have secured a place at Rutgers Business School (RBS), Newark NJ. Also, I am Wait-Listed at Carroll School (Boston College). Though both programs offer courses with my particular interests in IT Consulting, Strategy & Leadership and Business Analytics, I am in dilemma, as of now, whether to accept the Rutgers Admission or not. Rutgers has a good placement record with most of the students placed nearby the NYC. Furthermore, the exposure at the Wall Street adds more value to your profile.
However, BC is highly regarded for the competitive course structure and surrounded with Harvard, MIT, BU, etc. can be more competitive. BC is also ranked higher than RBS in all rankings.
Can you please outweigh some more statistics and features that will help me to make a decision? Let me also know which one to be prefer.
Thanks!!
Admitted - Rutgers | Wait Listed - Boston College

Hi champwix,
Congrats on the admit to Rutgers! At this point, I'm going to push back slightly on the stats request. I hope you understand at the end why I did that. Given where you are, it's about your gut. BC is higher ranked and a stronger program. That's it. It has a slightly higher brand recognition as well. So that's what is on the table - you're WL at a better program.
Stats on where you'll be placed, who you'll be around, etc. are great and all when picking schools but they are guideposts, not guarantees. You could have worse odds potentially at a school that places more heavily in a certain field. It's up to you and what you make of it.
So the question becomes - do you want to go to Rutgers and have an MBA from them? If the answer is yes, then pay the deposit, and work with BC on the WL. If they admit you, consider the Rutgers cost as sunk and pursue BC. However, if your answer is no, you don't want to go to Rutgers, then you have a clear path forward. Reject the Rutgers offers, work with BC, and if that falls through, apply again this fall.
I know this isn't a clear cut statistical answer that you can take to the bank, but it really comes down to how you feel about it. And that boils down to if you want to get an MBA from Rutgers in general.
If you want to talk through this, feel free to shoot me a note! I know you're in a tough spot and sometimes talking things out can help!

I would really like to know how a brand name and ranked school (between these 2 schools) will matter. Indeed, I do understand the BC program is definitely better than the Rutgers, but in a long run, will it matter. I presume, unless it is a top notch B-schools in the first 20ranks, other programs do stand almost same. As of now, it sounds I am cling towards Rutgers, but need some concrete justifications to the higher ranked and brand considerations.

Unfortunately there is no concrete justification available. It's about perception. The perceived reputation for BC is better than Rutgers. I'm not saying it is a far superior program by any means but there is a slight bump there that might be worth your consideration.
I hate to be the bearer of ambiguous advice but no one, no matter how long we have been doing this, will be able to definitely recommend one or the other. We can merely provide you our thoughts.
If you are leaning towards Rutgers that is ok! It's a great program and you'll get a good education.

While Boston College has a better reputation, both schools are outside the top 25 making these schools more regional programs. Your presumption is correct in that outside the top 20 school specific strengths matter (e.g. Babson in entrepreneurship) and regional presence. So Boston College would have a stronger network in Boston whereas Rutgers would have a stronger network in New York. Which region do you wish to work in post-MBA?
Good luck,
Good luck,
