A shipment of 70

by madhur_ahuja » Sat Aug 01, 2009 9:04 am
A shipment of 70 items is to be divided into three lots. How many pieces are in the largest of the three lots ?

1. The number of items in the largest lot is equal to the sum of number of items in the other two lots.

2. The smallest lot contains 10 items.

IMO it is A.

as stmt 1 can only be satisfied when

largest lot has 35 items.

any other way it is not possible.

Stmt 2. smallest one having 10 can lead to multiple situation

i.e 10+20+40

or 10+15+45 etc hence Insuff

(A) is sufficient.

70 = Largest + (sum of Other 2 numbers)

its given that largest = sum of other 2 numbers

Hence, you can find out largest.

(B) gives only smallest. So, we can't find out largest.
