A refrigerator holds a number of apples, bananas, carrots and dates. If the ratio of apples to bananas is 2 to 5 and the ratio of carrots to dates is 3 to 7, then what is the ratio of apples to dates?
(1) The ratio of bananas to carrots is 50 to 21
(2) The total number of apples, bananas, carrots and dates is 280
OA is A
But why S(2) is not sufficient ? It is 2x + 5x + 3x + 7x = 280 Or what should be the language for s(2) to be sufficient ?

Be careful. If you feel that the ratio A : B : C : D = 2x : 5x : 3x : 7x, then you'd be able to answer the target question WITHOUT using any statements.vinni.k wrote:A refrigerator holds a number of apples, bananas, carrots and dates. Hmm, I made a mistake. It should be 3x + 7y = 280. Now, i see a difference in the wording. It doesn't say that "ratio of apples to bananas to carrots to dates is 2 to 3 to 5 to 7".
It says "ratio of apples to bananas is 2 to 5 and the ratio of carrots to dates is 3 to 7" . For this wording , we need the statements.
Thanks Brent.
Appreciate it.
