A peculiar feature of the embryonic mammalian circulatory system is that in the area of the heart the cells adhere to one another, beating in unison and adopting specialized orientations exclusive of one another.
(A) beating in unison and adopting
(B) they beat in unison while adopting
(C) beat in unison, and adopt
(D) beating in unison yet adopting
(E) even though they beat in unison and adopt

My doubt in the above sentence is that "though i agree yet should be used in the sentence because sentence requires transition word but is present continous required over here???? If there would have been a option as beat in unison yet adopt. then would it had been better than the current D option...................."

Hi HSPA answer is D.............

I think I know what you're asking. If there had been a choice (F) that looked like this:

(F) beat in unison, yet adopt

would it have been preferable to (D)?

My answer is no. This is because "beating and adopting" is describing HOW the cells adhere to one another. Furthermore, there is only "a peculiar feature," singular, under consideration, so a list of 3 items would make more than one feature.

Hope this helps! :)

I got ur point Vivian..

But I want to ask one thing .... in general ....hw can we always check the specified functions explains the how previous function is done ..... i mean how to differntiate that they are not 3 differnt actions performed but an action which is explained by other actions..... Am i making sense here ??

in this case, Cant these be 3 different functions performed by cells ??

If thats 's the case then I think C would be a better answer.

Pls explain ....

Hey saurabh_maths,

It all comes down to logic in context.

"A peculiar feature" tells us the focus of this sentence is on one specific aspect of the circulatory system. "Adhering", "beating" and "adopting" would be three aspects.

Vote for "F". If I had to choose I would go for "C". Yet and "and" are coordinate conjuctions meaning that they connect only MAIN CLAUSES. E is not main cluase. . . So unless this question is ot of a bad quality, I would mostly prefer C which is grammatically correct rether than E wich adheres to the point but is is flawed grammaticaly.
