Speed / # of incorrect answers from OG

by tusharbatra123 » Mon Mar 05, 2012 12:35 am
Hello,

I started studying for the GMAT about 3-4 weeks back and I am expecting to write the exam in another 2 months or so depending on if I am ready for it or not.

I think my weakest area is Sentence correction, followed by Reading comprehension -> critical reasoning -> AWA -> Data Sufficiency -> Quantitative Problem solving. Languages have never been my strong hold since the beginning and the Diagnostic test in the Official Guide(12th Edition) just proved my premise.

So I started out with SC, I basically studied the Manhattan GMAT sentence correction guide - 4th Edition pretty extensively and then tried to answer a few questions from the OG 12th Edition.

The difficulties I faced was -
1. I took too much time. It took me 120 mins to answer the first 45 questions. Thats 2 min 40 sec per question, but I would have only 1 3/4. Is it just me who took that much time ? or ya'll had the same problem as well and figured out how to speed things up before the test. If yes, please tell me how.
2. The number of answers I got wrong were way more than I expected. I got 6 out the first 22 questions wrong(which I thought can be worked on) and then 9 out of the next 23(which completed put me off and I am not able to figure out what I am doing wrong). That gave me a total of just 30 out 45 in 120 mins. I am sure that's terrible. I would like to know how many of you had a similar problem and how did you work around it.

Can anyone please assist me in improving the speed and more importantly, is it normal to get these many questions wrong? If not, then I am out of options to work on around this situation.

Thanks,
Tushar.

6 out of first 22 wrong !! That is not bad at all.

Going for 22 SC question in one sitting and getting 6 wrong is good. Assuming that you have just started. Just my personal opinion on this.

Thanks for the response Avik, but accuracy seems to be going down and the speed flattening as I progress further.

Right now, of the 80+ SC questions answered, I got about 68% correct at an average of 2.9 mins per Q. I can clearly see a huge task ahead of me, but I am sure your book-marked post should help. Thanks again.

try some time to review those 80 problem that you have done. Generally you should take more time to reveiw a problem as you have to refer many threads for that. Here are some link that might help you.
