New to GMAT, Pls Help

by RojaGMAT » Sun May 29, 2016 3:57 am
Hi All,

I am having 10+ exp with 2 + exp in onsite in IT and completed B.tech in 2005 and M.tech 2014.

I would like to join IIM-Ahmedabad with GMAT.

Please suggest best score and best books to proceed further.

I can study 2 to 3 hrs per day and 6 hrs during weekend. Also, I can get extra 2 to 3 hrs during office.

Regards,
Roja

Hi Roja,

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can download 2 for free from www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 4 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

Hi Roja,

You might consider signing up for Beat The GMAT's free 60-Day Study Guide (https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/gmat-guide). Each day, you'll receive an email with a series of learning activities that guide you, step-by-step, from Day 1 to test day. This will ensure that you will cover everything that the GMAT tests.

Here's an outline of all 60 emails: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/gmat-guide-outline

As Rich points out, it's important to take a practice test early in one's studies. In fact, in BTG's 60-Day study guide, you're directed to take a full-length practice test on Day 3 (once you've familiarized yourself with the GMAT).

If you're interested, here's an article on the importance of taking a practice test early in one's studies: https://www.gmatprepnow.com/articles/tak ... st-already

Cheers,
Brent

Really Thanks for the quick reply.

Hi Rich,
Here is my answers:

1) What is your goal score? 720+
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT? Sept or Oct'16
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School? 2017 or 2018

Sure, I will take the Full length practice test.

Hi Brent,
The link 'https://www.gmatprepnow.com/articles/ta ... st-already ' really useful to me.
Ofcourse, I forgotten everything and need to start freshly.

I will update the score here once i finished the practice test.

Regards,
Roja

It's the full test. After you open the software, click on "Take a Practice Exam," under the heading "Practice." The next page should offer you Exam 1 and Exam 2. Both of those are full-length tests.
