Just took the GMAT 590 Q43/V29

by batman73 » Fri Mar 20, 2009 11:37 am
Just got back from the test center exhausted. Here is what I have been seeing

Previous practice prep test Q39/v34

Actual GMAT Q43/V29

Once I got to the verbal section, I felt as if I could not read the passages. I feel exhausted and had trouble comprehending the information. My goal is to get a 670, so I know a lot of work will need to be put into achieving my goal. This is a definite start

If anyone has any suggestions or pointers, I would gladly appreciate your feedback

Hi Bruce,

Look at the bright side, you know what you have to do now and you have a specific goal in mind. It seems that you need to build your stamina, i.e. build endurance. This will help you overcome the exhaustion.

I built amazing endurance by doing a FULL practice exam every single day for the last two weeks before my exam (although I did take the last two days off). It is important to stress that I did FULL exams, including the two essays at the beginning, and I can't stress enough how important this is. I tried to simulate the actual test conditions as much as possible. On exam day, it was just another day.

Aside from endurance, I am sure you can significantly improve your quantitative and verbal scores. Believe in yourself. Check out the other postings in the forum including mine from a couple of weeks ago.

One more note that I would like to make is confidence. Tackle every section with the confidence that you'll beat the hell out of the GMAT.

Good luck buddy

Aabsih,
Thanks for the support. I am extremely confident that I can do much better. I have not peaked out yet. Just endurance is what killed me. I am hoping to take the gmat by the end of may to give me 2 months of solid studying and preparation. I do feel if I had the endurance, I would have been able to get a 620-630. Regardless I will try to take a practice test once a week and towards the test I might take more. Thanks for the advice. It is greatly appreciated.

Batman73,

my 2 cents

Even i used to feel the same during my initial prep days but trust me after u take say 4-5 CATs that endurance will come by itself and ul start feeling that 4 hours is not very long after all.

Try not get exhausted and see every question like its going to fetch you some points and that will keep your energy level high during the test.

I would strongly echo what aabsih said in terms of taking a lot of practice tests. I have a good friend who had almost the same thing as you (except the scores were a little different). He ran out of time and fell off the table in the verbal. His score in verbal was worse than in any other verbal prep. So, he took lots of practice tests and did a lot better on his second time through.

Good luck! You can do it!
