1.Contrary to popular opinion, the movement toward a service economy is leading neither to lower standards of living, more of an unequal distribution of income, or displacing the physical production of goods.
(A) leading neither to lower standards of living, more of an unequal distribution of income, or
(B) leading neither to lower standards of living nor a more unequal distribution of income, or
(C) not leading to either lower standards of living nor to more of an unequal distribution of income, and neither is it
(D) not leading to lower standards of living, more of an unequal distribution of income, and it is not(E)
(E) not leading to lower standards of living or to a more unequal distribution of income, nor is it

Let me attempt answering this. Experts please correct me if I am assuming too much.

To my knowledge they should fit into neither/nor or either/or
So A, B, C are out as they use Neither/Or and Neither/Nor/Or, Either/Nor

Among D & E, I see E is more parallel with its leading to lower standards of living or to a more unequal distribution of income. And the Nor at the end is also justified as it is still negating.

Any further thoughts.

(A) leading neither to lower standards of living, more of an unequal distribution of income, or

Neither is there. No Nor??

(B) leading neither to lower standards of living nor a more unequal distribution of income, or

neither to is not parallel to nor a more unequal distribution.

(C) not leading to either lower standards of living nor to more of an unequal distribution of income, and neither is it

either and nor. No

(D) not leading to lower standards of living, more of an unequal distribution of income, and it is not

Awkward. and it is not in the end is redundant

(E) not leading to lower standards of living or to a more unequal distribution of income, nor is it

E remains. infinitive is used in first two and clear

Can an expert comment on Neither nor? Especially Can Neither appear with out Nor and vice versa?
Please do not post answer along with the Question you post/ask

Hey guys, if (E) is the correct answer, what does it refer to? Does it refer to the movement or a service economy?

in the same clause, we use "neither...nor, either... or. in a new clause, to continue the nagative in this new clause we use "nor" without "neither"

Kaplan grammar gmat book say this very clearly

in general grammar, you can see the chapter "scope of negation" for this matter. However, pay attentiom that not all things in general grammar books can be applied in GMAT land. GMAT require stricter not harder grammar.

E sounds good.

the others have either one conjunction missing or lacks the proper sequence/choice of conjunctions.
A: neither, ?, or
B: neither,nor,or
C: is,nor,neither
D: is,?,is
E:is,or,nor
