Hello!

Could you please let me know if its possible to take the same mgmat cat test more than once(like gmatprep)?

You can reset them but (at least for me) I found I saw almost 100% repeats in verbal on MGMAT retakes, whereas on GMATPrep all verbal except for 1 passage was new on retake.

Resources I used:
For SC: I used MGMAT SC guide, 1000SC series, OG 10 and OG 11. I almost remember each question of SC section from OG 11. I was surprised with the level of question in the main exam, but GMAT is also about maintaining your calm. No matter what kind of question GMAT throws at you basic rules will always remain same.
• Always prepare your own SC notes, take some reference from others' notes but always prepare your own notes

I feel 80% of the questions have more than one mistake so after doing the 2-3 split, you should be able to identify the correct answer. In case, you find the you are dealing with those 20% of the questions then you know you are doing extremely well.

For CR: I used Powerscore LSAT logic reasoning bible. I started with LSAT CR and soon I realized that CR for GMAT will not be so convoluted. I did occasional LSAT CR question and most of the times for CR I was depended on BTG forum.

For RC: This section was the deal clincher for me. After analyzing GMAT I realized that if you are good in CR and SC then you will going to face tough passages in GMAT and if you are not so good with RC skills then your level will fall back to initial position and it would be tough to recover. So in my point of view, if you want to ace the GMAT then you need to good in this section. When I started my prep in January'09, I was looking for forums where I can get some tips for RC.

After struggling for a while I could not get anything from any forum so I decided to form my own strategy. I started with LSAT passages and I noted down the type of question that I got wrong. When I started with LSAT passages I focused on accuracy first and then in next couple of weeks I involved time factor. My idea for RC was not to give more than 2 mins to any question. If you are doing exceptionally well in RC like getting all questions right with 1-2 mins extra then I would advise you to stick to that approach and try to squeeze that time by acing in other 2 sections.

RC is the section that requires concentration because if you miss once but or however you can mess up the summary of entire passage. Once I started getting comfortable with LSAT passages I moved onto GMAT RC. I used RC.doc file and tried first 63 passages. After that I used this website http://litesee.com/gmat.htm
This gives you great option testing your ability under timed environment, but make sure you check answers of some of passages after 34. You can match answers with RC.doc.

For Quanta: I did not study much for this section. I knew that this would not be a problem for me. I just referred to my formula sheet(attached).

Final note:
Make sure you prepare well for exam day. This time I practiced all the exams with essays. In my last 9 exams (5 MGMAT and 4 Prep(2 retakes)), I gave my 100% to my essays, this will help you in becoming familiar with your template and you can also simulate the test environment. Try to take test in public environment for e.g. Public library.

Formulate an exam strategy for you
Throughout my exams I stick to the following approach
Number of Questions: 5 10 15 20 25 30 35
Time Quanta : 65 55 45 35 25 15 10 05
Time Verbal: 66 57 48 39 30 21 12

This was my second attempt. In my first attempt I scored dismal 570(Q49, V19) on 08/29/08. It would still take some time to forget that day. I will not say that I was not prepared earlier but there was something else that let me down. I was struggling during verbal part, somehow I wanted my test to get over. And finally when it got over it left me with a score of 570 I was so depressed during that I never wanted to talk about it. It took me 4 months to get over it and here came the New Year.
I love posts like these. It gives all of us hope! If you can go from 570 to 760 after much hard work studying, then so can many others if they really put in the effort to intelligently study and learn from their mistakes in order to reach their maximum potential.

Your example is pure inspiration! A BIG congrats hemantsood! Best of luck getting into the top school you're striving to attend.

Hey Rauenkk,

I used Powerscore LSAT logic reasoning bible for CR and RC.doc for LSAT RCs. I am not sure what is official name of that file because it goes by several names.

Hey Ankur,

When I was going thru my errors, I realized that I was making careless mistakes. In other words I would say I learnt the art of test taking thru those mistakes. I roughly remember that I got 47 in Quanta section and I told myself that I am not allowed to get this score in this section. No matter how hard math section would be, I need to get above it and score maximum whatever possible. There were couple of reasons for that belief.
1. Being an engineer from India, it is not fair if you do not perform good in that section.
2. I felt that was the section that you could be sure.

And in previous exams I made careless mistakes in SC section, so after analyzing those mistakes, I almost reached a level 100% in SC.

Great Post!!! Congratulations!!! I am reading this so late because i m also going through the same situation right now. I have scored 580 on 8th August 2009, my first attempt. I really need to score above 650. I am planning to take my exam in November begining. But now i m really afraid to take this test again. Verbal is my weak part. After reading your post, I feel even i can do it.

All the best for your applications!!!

Hi Hemant,
Congratulations for great success!!!

What was your approach to solve RC?
Did you make Skeleton Sketch and detail map( MGMAT RC method)?

I had given my GMAT in December,2007 and scored 580. Although I had scored 680 in GMAT prep. I was planning to retake it but every time I post pond it for next few months as I have a full time job so I was not able to concentrate but it going to be like this. Hence I have booked date of 12-Oct-2009. I have started my preparation from July end.

I am about to finish SC and CR section of OG10. I am planning to finish OG11 + GMAT verbal review by end of this month. After that as you said I will try to concentrate on 63 GMAT passages. I am not very comfortable in RC. I also make some care less mistake in SC and CR. When I give it a retry I am able to solve almost all with out looking at answers. Few questions may be new but there may be a concept problem.

I had given GMAT PREP exam in July and scored 620. I have not given any other exam but I want to finish OG first then I will give more exam.

Also this time I will include AWA section and as per your suggestion I will give it in a public library.

Can you please provide me answers to my questions + your feedback ?

Thanks.
