When & How to plan my MBA application?

by varung79 » Sat Jun 21, 2014 8:31 pm
Hi

I registered for my official GMAT test on 27 August 2014 and intend to get into the class for fall 2015.

What should my general strategy be right from now?

Hi there,

Are you asking about overall application strategy I assume? Or GMAT prep? Certainly I encourage you to consider a reputable GMAT prep program. ;) Otherwise it's time RESEARCH and BRAINSTORM in prep for applying. Know your own reasons for applying and your post-MBA goals... research career options if needed. Research SCHOOLS in-depth and confirm your school list, then know each school you are applying to inside and out so you can demonstrate why that school is best for you. Review application essay questions and start brainstorming for your answers to the essay questions. Start thinking about who you'll ask to do your recommendations. Work on your resume.

Keep us posted on questions and how we can help!

Hi Jennifer

Thanks for your response, and yes, I was asking about overall application strategy and how I go about doing school selection. I aim to get into top programs and thought posting here would help me plan ahead.

Immediate question that ticks me is how I go about selecting schools between a two year and one year program?(For ex: TUCK vs INSEAD)?

Sure thing, it's a great time to work on school research and selection, and there are many factors to consider (length of program; geographic location; class size; curriculum strengths; employment statistics; class culture, etc). I do recommend that you check out our free download on choosing schools, at https://info.mbamission.com/Selecting-Yo ... ram-E-Book.

In terms of one year vs two year, there are a lot of considerations as well. Generally more of the top programs are 2 year, vs one year; so certainly a 2 year is fairly standard and allows plenty of opportunity to take a variety of coursework, get involved in a lot of different projects, definitely partake in an internship, network a lot with classmates, etc. A one year program will generally be less overall cost, if for no other reason than it's not sacrificing 2 years of salary in the workforce. But it's also important to look at ROI and expected salary and role after specific schools and see what makes sense to you. In some cases one year MBA programs can be a good option for those who are less in need of the internship; who are returning to a prior company or a family business; who don't need much if any time to 'explore' and try things out during b-school. But that being said, many one-year programs DO still have an internship, and take more than half the # of classes of a 2 year program, it just might be a bit more intense.

Let me/us know how we can help further! And if you'd like at any point, we do offer a free 30 minute consult, at https://www.mbamission.com/consult.php.

Thanks Jennifer for the insights. My final decision would be to choose between Tuck and INSEAD with my priority school being TUCK - my gut feeling is that a 2 year program would give me ample opportunities to explore things. However, I will target both the schools.

If it's suggestible that we take a 30 minute Skype call to discuss further, I can register?

I look forward for your response!

I have filled in the form with my details and posted my resume at the link https://www.mbamission.com/consult.php

However, I see no signs of neither a confirmation e-mail nor a page to book my 30 minute session. Have I missed something here? Jennifer, can you please assist me to register a 30 minute Skype call?
