Because no employee wants to be associated with bad news in the eyes of a superior, information about serious problems at lower levels is progressively softened and distorted as it goes up each step in the management hierarchy. The chief executive is therefore, less well informed about problems at lower levels than are his or her subordinates at those levels.

The conclusion drawn above is based on the assumption that

(A) problems should be solved at levels in the management hierarchy at which they occur

(B) employees should be rewarded for accurately reporting problems to their superiors

(C) problems-solving ability is more important at higher levels than it is at lower levels of the management hierarchy

(D) chief executives obtain information about problems at lower levels from the no source other than their subordinates

(E) some employees are more are concerned about truth than about the way they are perceived by their superiors

Here, the objective is to find the Nexus between the concluding part of the passage and the opening part.

Option A:- Incorrect
In as much as its presumably right for issues to be resolved at lower cadre to give credibility to the image of any employee, its also important to note that its not a strong and valuable position to because it tends to "kill" issues rather than talk about them.

Option B:- Incorrect
This is dependent on if the employee is completely aware of his superior's decision to such issues. If he feels he'd be rewarded then he can go ahead but if its contrary then its better he manages it with the concerned party silently.

Option C:- Incorrect
This statement is synonymous with saying "he who pays the piper dictates the tune" Organisational leadership skills is important at higher levels because the guys at the top calls the shot. He hires and fires to protect his interest.

Option D:- correct
This is the best and most appropriate narration of the author's statement. It gives accurately the information that subordinates, instead of the direct source gives information to the chief executive however distorted it may be.

Option E:- Incorrect
Of course, some people are hell bent on saying the truth but it has to come with the sense of it. You must study your superior enough to know if you aren't getting fired for saying the truth because in the end what matters to some folks is the security of their job.
