What does these sentences mean

by hemant_rajput » Sat May 18, 2013 10:28 am
I was practicing CR questions from OG and I came across these sentences in Answer Choices. I am confuse about what actually below sentences refer to - Premise, Conclusion or Anti - Premise,etc.

1. support a position that the argument as a whole opposes;

2. provides evidence to undermine the support for the position being opposed.

3. provides evidence to support an explanation that the argument favors;
I'm no expert, just trying to work on my skills. If I've made any mistakes please bear with me.

Although I might be wrong, I would still like to give it a shot. (:

Premise, Conclusion or Anti - Premise,etc.
1. support a position that the argument as a whole opposes;
Premise

Position = Conclusion.

Premise supports its conclusion
2. provides evidence to undermine the support for the position being opposed.
Anti - Premise

evidence = fact = premise.

and since its is weakening the conclusion it should be Anti- premise.

3. provides evidence to support an explanation that the argument favors;
Premise

support an explanation -> Support the conclusion -> premise
