Hi anupamrajey -- it sounds like you have a lot of interesting elements to your profile! This seems to be a good time in your career for you to be applying to bschool, based on the quantity and quality of work experience. Why are you delaying the GMAT so long? Hopefully that does not indicate a plan to apply in Round 3 of this season - instead, we'd advise you to wait and go for Round 1 next year (see this post from our blog that explains what's behind this suggestion: https://essaysnark.blocked/2011/02/ ... l-now.html )

It's difficult to say much about your profile without having a GMAT score, and knowing which schools you're interested in. You are focusing on many of the right things by talking about your experiences in the professional world. The fact that you've been asked to speak on these subjects is interesting and might be worth mentioning to the bschool adcoms. Mostly you'll want to think about positioning your background in terms of leadership and teamwork. How have you brought results to the organizations of which you've been a part? Those make for the best material to give to the adcoms in essays. You might even want to go through the essay questions that your target schools have released for this year's apps -- it's likely that they will change next year, at least a little, but getting some sense of how you would approach the very important essays will help you in figuring out how to better prepare in the time from now till next year.

Our best advice is to do exactly as you're doing: Start working on your profile and preparing for apps NOW! People are often surprised by how much work each part of the application is - many people spend all their time on the GMAT and then have no time left for essays, and end up rushing things. The essays will take just as long (if not longer!) as GMAT prep does. Of course, the GMAT is the first step, and you've come to the right place for guidance there! Lots of great resources here at BTG. The essay questions for next year's apps will start coming out in May/June through the summer, so it's really not too far at all and you can make great strides in buffing up your profile and finding new ways to have an impact at work and in the community - then you'll be in an even stronger position when the time comes to put together those essays.

Hope this helps, let us know if you have other questions!
