I need a career boost. What should I do?

Hello,

My first post after joining here.

Here is my background:

I am a CPA and have 4 yrs of work experience in a local CPA firm in St charles IL area. I am considering to apply for Chicago Booth and Northwestern Kellog PT MBA program. My under grad GPA is 3.5 ish and haven't started GMAT study but it cant be more difficult than CPA right?

My question is will I get job opportunites with Big 4 in consulting and investment banks as an evening MBA or should you be FT MBA to land a job with big companies? Because this will be a big investment, I am curious if ROI will be offsetting costs.
Do employers discriminate you for being in PT MBA? And do I get almost same salary boost after graduation?

The other option I am considering is to get into UIUC masters in acct program and get an experienced audit or tax job at Big 4, work there for a few years and move to a large company like a Navistar hoping one day I can be a CFO there. However this will be more years of low pay compared to almost guranteed sig figure after graduating top 5 MBA program.

Any evening MBA with Booth or Kellog please advise.
Thanks !

Hey dude,
Good to hear from you.
Good question you ask regarding FT vs PT programs. It's not so much that companies "discriminate" but it is that a PT MBA is not intended to afford you the possibilities to make a career change, it is rather designed for a boost within your same career as you work. If you want to make the changeover to finance or strategy consulting, an MBA is the way to go. Between the internships, networking and career services, you should have many possible opportunity channels to explore.

And yes, the pay boost is significant, as you already know :)

Best,
JF
