IN THE QUESTION(ATTACHED HEREWITH), I THINK THE ANSWER SHOULD BE E. THEY HAVE SEEMED TO HAVE OVERLOOKED THE POSSIBILITY OF "ZERO" WHICH ALSO SATISFIES BOTH THE STATEMENTS 1 & 2 AND ZERO IS NOT EVEN. HENCE BOTH STATEMENTS ARE INSUFFICIENT.
PLEASE CLARIFY

Though zero is neither positive nor negative, zero is even - important number property to file away!

And if you're curious, you can think of the definition of an even number as any 'n' that satisfies n = 2k, where k is an integer. If k = 0, then n = 0, and thus 0 is even.

Hi googly76,

Another way to think of all of this is to consider a Number Line. The integers on a Number Line always alternate... odd, even, odd, even, etc.

For example:
-3 = odd
-2 = even
-1 = odd
0 = even
1 = odd
2 = even
Etc.
