PowerScore Critical Reasoning

by Notmyking » Fri Apr 06, 2007 8:10 am
Today, I saw the review of Critical Reasoning guide by PowerScore on Amazon.com. It was highly rated by all five reviewers. Can people on this forum can give thier feed back on the book.

I actually bought it in a shopping spree. It looks very detailed on how to approach CR. If CR is a main weakpoint might be good to use it. I have seen a few posts on gmatclub that state its an OK book. If you have the time, i doubt it would hurt. Especially if you needed extra help on CR.

Powerscore is like the Manhattan GMAT of LSAT. Basically their Logical Reasoning Bible is meant for the LSAT which has a much harder CR section ( i have experienced this as i have given the LSAT and used Powerscore). It is good to use this book because it offers more challenging questions (like the ones on LSAT) ... if you do well on these questions then doing well on GMAT's Verbal section will be a piece of cake. I am only using this book for my verbal section and last week i got a 93 percentile on Verbal at the MGMAT CAT so yes its worth it. I have it on pdf too so if anyone wants it for free let me know :).

It is. It refutes the idea that CR is something you get genetically. Logic is a science and it tells you exactly how to dissect arguments and analyze them accordingly ... enjoy.

I was scoring about 50% on logical reasoning for the GMAT and LSAT and I bought the PowerScore Logic Reasoning Bible. I went through the whole book and practiced every problem and now I am almost always above 90% on logical reasoning. I haven't take any GMAT practice tests recently but I am sure I will score way better. Probably the best book of any I have used.

I think the book is wonderful in terms of logic. But toooooooo long and detailed.

Imagine reading 300 pages for just CR. When the same thing cane be said in a fewer pages.

I think some theory is important but there is no substitute to practicing questions.

I have read the LSAT version of the book which 600+ pages and I found it to be a real bible for CR. I would highly recommend it to anyone weak on CR or aiming to score high on GMAT.
