Thee Comfocar

by heymayank08 » Thu Apr 19, 2012 9:34 am
The Comfocar company manufactures a
sedan that can drive comfortably at 80 miles
per hour. A rival company, Turbocar, recently
introduced a comparably equipped sedan
that can drive comfortably at up to 110 miles
per hour. Turbocar claims that its sedan will
outsell Comfocar's sedan because the
Turbocar sedan can get customers to their
destinations in comfort much faster than can
the Comfocar sedan.
Which of the following, if true, casts the most
doubt on Turbocar's claims?
A. Customers in surveys consistently rank
comfort among the most important
criteria in purchasing a car.
B. Many road surfaces are engineered to
allow comfortable driving at speeds up to
120 miles per hour.
C. Automotive safety experts state that it is
not safe for any car to be driven faster
than 100 miles per hour.
D. Comprehensive research has determined
that while the Turbocar model has faster
acceleration and a higher top speed than
the Comfocar sedan, both cars show
approximately the same fuel efficiency.
E. Nowhere in the main marketing areas for
these two car companies is it legal or
practical to drive faster than 70 miles per
hour.

pls explain..OA after some discussion :)

IMO C!

A talks of comfort but there is nothing to suggest that one car is more comfortable than the other
B strengthens the claim of Turbocar
C may weaken the claim of Turbocar because if it is not safe to drive above 100 miles an hour then customers may not be impressed by this feature.
D talks of fuel eficiency which is beyond the scope of this argument.
E says that it is not legal to drive in excess of 70 MPH but then that would affect both cars.

Hence IMO C!

IMO E.
In C the view of the experts is presented. Out of scope here.
E states a fact, which every car owner will have to follow.

OA: E

now even i think that in option C it is out of scope because look at the conclusion of the auther it clearly says that new car will take the users well in less time than the confocar would.
but option E states that the limit is set to 70km/hr
according to which claims of turbocar become wrong that it can deliver the passengers in less time than the comfocar would.

:)

exactly. option E seems the only correct answer choice. Option C just satates the views of experts. But the real conditions might not be as per the experts creterion and Turbo car might drive the customers faster still, and henc option C does not weaken the conclusion.
Option E directly weakens the conclusion that Turbo car is better , by stating it is not even possible to drive more than 70 miles for any car,
E is prefect,
