GPA

by rajatvmittal » Sat Feb 11, 2012 6:03 am
Hi
I am new to this forum and planning to take GMAT in May 2012. I want to know what is the sufficient GPA number. I am from India and got my graduation in Commerce from University of Delhi. I scored 77% approx. It is equivalent to 2.7 (i guess so)as per official site of MBA (when you register on mba.com, there is table that translates your score to GPA). Is it good or bad?

Well, having worked with a LOT of Indian candidates, I know that your 77% is worth a LOT more than a 2.7. Grade equivalencies are a tough thing, especially since all schools are different between them. Usually I suggest backing up your grades with relative comparative facts... for example if 77% puts you in the top 5%, you want to make sure that the adcom knows it!

so you know, use all the tools in your power to show them just how good your grades really were.

Thanks Jon. I really appreciate that you took some time out to help me guide on this one. Though I topped my college but not sure about my position in University. How much would it add to my GPA? Further, what are the other factors that schools consider important in the Application? Could you rate these factors? I admit that it varies with the school. But, still, I want to know about it. I have been good in academics but not in sports and other activities. You must be aware of these since you have already worked with Indian candidates.
Thanks for all the help!

All of these factors are important, but I don't know if I could "Rate" them. I would say that first of all, it's important to do what you can to show that you grades are better than they might seem at first glance, and then also to talk about whatever extra stuff you have.
