Is the answer E, I remember doing a similar problem in OG 12:
here is how:
Lets say when you divide a by b, q is the quotient and r is the remainder:
so you have:
a = b.q + r
divide both the sides by b
a/b = q + r/b
a/b = 2.86 = 2 + 0.86
so q + r/b = 2 + 0.86
so q =2, and r/b = 0.86 = 86/100 = 43/50
so b is 50. Very very difficult problem though. Hope it helps.

I reember the problem in OG that you refer to, but that problem did not ask for a divisor, it asked for the remanider

I think logically the answer here should be 50 because from 2.86 we know that the quotient is 2 and that r is 86 and b is 100. since 100 is a multiple of 50, then 50 is a divisor of a.
How that sounds ?

IMO ans is 13 ie B
a/b=2.86----->286/100----->143/50
as the q is saying a and b are 2 poistive int so after reducing it to lowest factor a is 143 and b is 50
and therefore divisor of a is 13
OA pls
