On a recent trip, Cindy drove her car 290 miles, rounded to the nearest 10 miles, and used 12 gallons of gasoline, rounded to the nearest gallon. The actual number of miles per gallon that Cindy's car got on this trip must have been between

A) 290/12.5 and 290/11.4

B) 295/12 and 284/11.4

C) 284/12 and 295/12

D) 284/12.5 and 295/11.4

E) 295/12.5 and 284/11.4

OA: D

My biggest problem with this is that 285 and 294 are not possibilities, same with 12.4 and 11.5.
Is it just me or if you round 284 and 295 to the nearest 10, it should be rounded to 280 and 300 respectively, not 290?

HELP!

I've seen that question in the Official Guide and I think the answer choices are incorrect.

The answer choice is correct.

Let's consider the number 10.

It must be true that 10 is between:

9 and 11

But it must also be true that 10 is between:

5 and 15

And, of course, it must also be true that 10 is between:

0 and 1 billion

and so on.
