The recent transportation-worker strikes have decimated the city's vital summer-tourist trade, to lead to 25 percent fewer visits, and triggers concerns among some business owners that the entire economy will begin to suffer.

1.to lead to 25 percent fewer visits, and triggers
2.leading to 25 percent less visits and triggering
3.to lead to a 25 percent decrease in visits and trigger
4.to lead to a 25 percent decrease in visits, and triggered
5.leading to a 25 percent decrease in visits and triggering

    How to attack this.?

The recent transportation-worker strikes have decimated the city's vital summer-tourist trade, to lead to 25 percent fewer visits, and triggers concerns among some business owners that the entire economy will begin to suffer.

A.to lead to 25 percent fewer visits, and triggers
B.leading to 25 percent less visits and triggering
C.to lead to a 25 percent decrease in visits and trigger
D.to lead to a 25 percent decrease in visits, and triggered
E.leading to a 25 percent decrease in visits and triggering

The correct answer is E. Also him1985, whenever you post a sentence or a doubt, please post the OA using the spoiler.

Option E is the answer as 'leading' modifies the overall 'The recent transportation-worker strikes have decimated the city's vital summer-tourist trade'.

This means that the recent transportation has led to a 25 percent decrease in visits.

Also this is the case of parellelism. Leading and triggering both are modifying the same sentence or clause in the same way.

Hence the correct answer is E.

Option B is also doing the same thing but the problem with option B is that the 'to 25 percent less visits'. This is unidiomatic.

leading to a decrease is idiomatic as compared to leading to 25 percent less visits.

All the other options beginning from 'to' are not parallel and so cannot be used as the non-underlined part does not use 'to'.

Please post the OA or the correct answer without fail...

It seems that you have just started the GMAT prep especially the sentence correction.

I would recommend to first go through the concepts of sentence correction or if not that at least go through the flash cards that are available on this site. It is very helpful.

Also for sentence correction the spidey's notes or Kaplan 800 or Manhattan Grammar rules are very helpful for the preparation.

Also Egmat is also a good available course for sentence correction.

If you have any further doubts you could always Private message me. I have been preparing for quiet a long time now and so will be able to help you. You are most welcome.

I really hope this would have helped you...
