Hi Kavin,

You have pasted the wrong question. I am not an expert but here is my analysis.

Now generally regarded a forgery, the Kensingston Rune Stone, a 90-kilogram slab of inscribed stone discovered in Minnesota in 1898, was said to have recorded an encounter between Native Americans and Norse explorers in 1362 and thus was cited as evidence that Europeans explored North America in pre-Columbian times.

The sentence has 2 clauses. Sunject verb are highlighted.

A.was said to have recorded an encounter between Native Americans and Norse explorers in 1362 and thus was cited as evidence that Europeans explored - Correct

B.was said to record an encounter between Native Americans and Norse explorers in 1362, thus being cited as evidence for Europeans exploration: Incorrect. Gives the meaning that rock was told to record illogical. Evidence for is incorrect. Giving the meaning that evidence was found for europeans instead of the action that europeans explored which is the intended meaning. Changes the meaning from 2 known facts about the rock to a causality. Incorrect usage of being.

C. said to have recorded an encounter between Native Americans and Norse explorers in 1362, and thus cited as evidence for European exploration of - Incorrect parallelism, Makes a verb ed parallel to a verb. Evidence for is incorrect

D. which was said to record an encounter between Native Americans and Norse explorers in 1362, and thus cited as evidence that Europeans explored: No verb for stone.

E. which, said to have recorded an encounter between Native Americans and Norse explorers in 1362, was thus cited as evidence for Europeans exploring - Evidence for is incorrect. Parallelism removed. No verb for stone.

said is a wrong verb, it should be "was said"
because stone did not said anything: it cannot be in active form
eliminate C,D,and E

"to have recorded" is correct because action had happened in the past and " to record" is wrong as stones were not told to record
although "have" is present perfect but when comes in infinitive "to have" is used to refer the action that happened in the past.

evidence for is incorrect because:
it represent that "the evidence for the Europeans exploration" but it should be "evidence that Europeans explored north america".

SO A is correct
